  1. botan ame:
This is that yummy rice candy you can find in the Asian foods aisle or a Japanese grocery. The most interesting part of this candy is the edible inner wrapper.
  2. dune:
Frank Herbert's masterpiece. It captured my imagination when I read it, and I re-read the series every couple of years or so. I also like some of the computer games based on Dune. Not so much the movies, but the movies are good too, in thier own way.
  3. h2g2:
This is the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, earth edition. Douglas Adams and the digitial village started this site to function as a real guide to the planet earth with entries on everything. I wrote a handful of entries that got into the official guide, and the one on the I Ching was even the editor's pick of the day when it got accepted. Things went downhill, when The Digital Village sold h2g2 to the BBC. I rarely go there anymore. I think Wikipedia kind of realized the dream of what the guide could have been.
  4. japanese calligraphy:
I just enjoy it. I think its a beautiful artform. My Aikido dojo I used to train at in california had a beautiful example brushed by Hikitsuchi Sensei.
  5. mickey mouse:
What can I say? I like Mickey Mouse. You all know who he is. I especially like the very old Black and White Mickey Mouse Cartoons, and I think Steamboat Willy never gets old.
  6. peace:
Peace is a guiding principle in my life. Its most evident in the practice of my Aikido, as it is an art of peace. This does not mean I am a pacifist. I believe that peace can have an active element and make this world a better place.
  7. sci fi:
Obviously short for science fiction. I have been a life-long sci-fi fan. In fact the first movie I ever remember seeing is 2001 a Space Odyssey. Star Trek was often on at my house (this was before the days of VCRs) and I remember my dad boasting to me that he had seen every single Star Trek Episode. And ofcourse there was that fateful day in 1977 when he picked me up from kindergarten and took me to see Star Wars...
  8. superman:
Faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, look up in the sky! its a bird! its a plane! its Superman!

This is another one of those things from my five year old self I carry with me into adult hood. There is just something very emotionaly moving to me about a man who dresses up in tights, can fly, and always does the right thing.
  9. theremin:
A musical instrument you don't touch to play intrigues me. I would love to try one of these out some day. I think at the time I added this interest I was also interested in Theremin the person, as I saw a bio-pic about him, but I have forgotten all the details by now.
  10. 合氣道:
This is the Kanji for Aikido. There was a time in my life I was defined by my Aikido practice. I still am to a point, though I don't train much anymore. To me aikido is more of a philosophy of non-violence than a martial art. The techniques of Aikido are expressions of the philosophy of Aikido. But I also believe that if one trains in the techniques, the underlying philosophy can be revealed.

II noticed that you have japanese calligraphy listed... While the style of martial arts I study is Korean, I THINK that the style of kanji that they use for Soo Bahk Do is Chinese. I wish I knew more about kanji... including how to write Soo Bahk Do's 8 Key Concepts in kanji. I can't find them anywhere though.
