zenmondo: (Make Code Not War)
As I went to donate plasma today, I caught a reflection of me from head to toe in the glass door as I approached. I saw myself wearing my Hack-Tic t-shirt, my superman belt, black jeans, and Doc Martens. I was flashed back to 11 years in the past in Amsterdam, where I would wear exactly that on a typical day.

Am I stuck in a fasion rut? Or have I just found whats comfortable for me? Its not like a t-shirt and jeans are out of fasion, but I think its kind of funny that I am wearing the same things 11 years later. And in the case of the belt and the t-shirt, the exact same items. I am just glad that my t-shirt has lasted this long.

The T-shirt was a gift from friends who knew I wanted a Hack-Tic t-shirt. I got to Holland shortly after Hack-Tic ceased to be, but all the Hack-Tic hackers were at their new enterprise XS4ALL. So there was still a little tiny bit of Hack-Tic swag to be had, and I scored a t-shirt.

I sometimes wonder where I would be now if I still swam in Hacker circles like I used to.

Right now my skills are more applied in Second Life writing scripts. Its not important work, but its still fun, and in a way reminds me of hacking with some of the things I do.

I just finished a job writing a trolley system for a friend. It paid L$15,000 that can convert to about $50 USD. Definatly the biggest job I have done. I probably wouldn't have quoted that much for the job, but by the end, I felt like I earned it. That quote was actually by another scripter that bailed on the job for some reason, so I inherited the job with that pay. In all honesty I would have done it for L$12,500 :) But I was happy for the big pay day. There is another trolley route that needs doing, with more turns, and two sim crossings. Don't even know if I want to tackle it or not. We will see.
