Cereal Thievery
Aug. 3rd, 2006 05:55 pmEver notice how so many of the kiddie sugar cereal commercials revolve around the the theme of theft?
Kids try to steal Lucky Charms from Lucky, The Trix rabbit is always trying to sneak cereal, Barney is always trying to steal Fred's Pebbles, and I am pretty sure there was once a character called the Cookie Crook that stole Cookie Crisp.
I really wonder what piece of marketing data was cooked up by some firm that said the way to market kiddie cereal is to make it seem so appealing that one would resort to stealing it.
I mean what they really should be modeling is crying, whining, and begging in the cereal aisle until mom or dad gives in and gets you the cereal. But what happens when all the crying, whining, and begging still ends up with store-brand corn flakes in the basket? Well one should then resort to stealing it. Eating it in secret, becomming addicted to the rush of both the sugar and the crime, and end up being one of those adults that buy sugar cereal throughout thier adulthood. That must be it.
