I could just scream!

I just wasted 40 minutes of my day to be turned away from donating plasma, because I am Mani-Depressive, and ONCE AGAIN need a doctor's note before they will let me donate.

I called yesterday about me starting my new medication and how it would affect my ability to donate, and they said it was fine, but today, its a problem.

Pisses me off beyond belief.

There may be an ADA case here.. I dunno. I sure feel discriminated against.

I would assume this is all taking place at the same facility. The next time someone tells you it's okay to donate, whether by phone or in person, I would ask for a verification letter signed by someone in a position of authority. It makes no difference whether the letter mentions you by name or whether it simply states the facility's policy that manic depressive people can donate. The letter could be mailed to you or handed to you during your next visit.

Tell them you keep getting different messages from different people, and the repeated trips have become burdensome. Explain that since some folks are apparently unaware of the facility's policy, you need tangible back-up you can rely on. You deserve to know in advance that regardless of who you come in contact with next, you will still be able to donate.

Its more a change in my treatment that is making me go through the exact same rigamarole again.

I know they are covering their collective asses in this litigious society we live in, but it is offputting and frustrating as hell.

The funny thing is, it was the SAME PERSON that told me over the phone that I could donate that was turning me away today. Well, actually she was my contact person. I think her call as the nurse she would have let me, but I think an administrator said he needed a doctor's opinion, and so the forms were printed and handed to me.

Translating from the legalese, I think the note says, "You as a doctor say he won't go batshit-crazy because he donates with us, so he can't sue us if he does."
