Let me top that off for you...
So yesterday I was feeling kind of nostalgic for a summer when I ate about a zillion triple cheeseburgers at McDonald's during the Disney Hercules tie in. Well they don't make triples anymore but the double is on the dollar menu, so off I went for that.
As I was at the window at the drive through, I saw the person topping off my coke ... but not with coke, but with ICE. She was scooping ice into my cup to bring the level to the top of the cup. I could do nothing but shake my head. I guess I should feel cheated. But I wonder how may micro-pennies McDonald's saves by this practice that add up to real savings.
Though I would like to see the cost analysis of how much ice costs to make vs soda pop. Soda Pop you got syrup, CO2, and water. With ice you have water and the energy for refrigeration. Yeah Ice is probably cheaper. But still how hard could it have been to top me off with a couple squirts of coke?

1. Most obvious, They were being chintzy.
2. They have an automatic drink machine, meaning that it dispenses the cup, the ice, and the soda in pre-measured quantities in order to fill the cup, and then all the person at the window has to do is slap a lid on it. These machines often have issues with the ice disposal units thus, Ice gets scooped into the drink after it goes through the line, just before the "cap off"
3. Soda is cheaper than anyone realizes. There is very little cost that goes into it for places like McDonalds. Ice machines, the electricity that they use, and cost of city water typically costs more than the cost of CO2 and the soda syrup per drink.
I have probably just bored the everlovingdaylights out of everyone that is on your friends list with this little bit of meaningless trivia but considering the topic I couldn't help myself.
