A borrowed book
Jul. 15th, 2006 11:18 pmSo I am reading the Baroque Cycle by Neal Stephenson. I tried reading the first of the series, Quicksilver twice before, but something always distracted me and I found myself with the book already renewed once due at the library and me only partialy through it.
Well the third time is the charm, and I finished the second of the series today and returned it and got the last book.
The person who had these books before me would mark her place by dog-earing the page at the bottom. As I work my way through these books, I find myself unfolding the corners as I go along. But its a nice little token actually, a way of someone saying "I was here before you" and in a way reading these books is a shared experience, though seperated by time. Makes me wonder about the person I am following and what she thought of the pages I am reading now.
Ofcourse I have no idea if it was a he or a she, but I like thinking it was a she.
As a bookmark, I am using the reciept from the pizza I had the other day that I wrote about. The cute waitress who smiled at me signed it with the words THANKS !! The dots of the two exclamation points acting as eyes for a smily face. So I keep it to remind me of the pretty girl who smiled at me.
I am trying to find joy in the things I can, as my situation at home is quite frankly, depressing.
