For my viewing pleasure
Jul. 15th, 2005 04:50 pmI went to see Batman Begins today. It is possibly the best superhero movie ever made, but to be sure, I would have to watch Spider-Man 2 again. Come to think of it, Unbreakable is a pretty damn good superhero movie.
I also been watching old episodes of the Mickey Mouse Club. I bought a $10 DVD of them at Target last night.
There were a few things I never noticed about the club, having this be the first time I have sat down and watched them as an adult.
First, what was the big deal with Annette? Darlene was the cutest of the group, by far.
Second, Jimmie sets off my Gaydar something fierce... but it could just be the Kid Show host vibe from the late 50's and early 60s.
Third, why are all the Mouseketeers white? This didn't occur to me until the "Talent Round Up" episode from 1957 came on. That week's Talent Roundup winner was this amazingly cute and talented black girl. It was only with the contrast that I realized that there were no black or any non-white mousketeers at all. I know it was a different world back then, but what surprised me is that it took the contrast there for me to even notice.
Now I don't remember if the 1970s incarnation had any diversity either... weird. I usually just don't notice these things I guess.
