Where's Paka?
Nov. 4th, 2003 07:32 pmLast night, I tried to sit down and write Dad's eulogy for tomorrow's burial. I knew much of what I wanted to say, but the flow just was not there. I could not connect the different things that I feel need saying.
So, looking for inspiration, I bring up a picture of Dad. Conor comes up and says, "Oh, it's Paka." Now COnor has not said anything about his Paka since he left. Even when we moved out Dad's bed, he seemed completely unfazed. Its been very weird in fact, usually he hates any kind of change, but he has seemed fine with Dad's absence.
"Conor," I asked, "Where's Paka?"
"Paka go to the doctor to get better."
And there I had my answer. Conor hasn't asked about my Dad because he already knew where he was. This is what
keltgrrl told Conor when Dad was taken to the hospital. Conor visited him in the hospital, and saw the doctor making him better, and as far as he knows, that is where he still is.
I tried to tell him that Paka did not get better, but he was already off doing other things thinking that everything was resolved.
I envy his innocence.
