Thoughts on the new year
Oct. 31st, 2003 05:11 pmWell the sun is setting, Samhain is begining, and the New Year arrives like the new moon. The dark half is upon us, and the veil is thin.
I'm not ready for this Samhain, the time when we remember those who passed during the year, and those wounds are too recent for me. We have not even gotten dinner for US tonight, much less prepare a plate for our ancestors.
Amazingly, I sublimated what these 3 days mean and just thought about "Halloween", Conor and his tiger suit, and trick or treating. Playing with the idea of dressing up (probably won't happen), and the sort of thing. Only last night did it come to the forefront of my thoughts that is also Samhain.
We've always celebrated two holidays this time of year. There is the fun secular holiday of Halloween, and then there is the "real" day of tradition of Samhain.
I feel awful. Samhain is going to happen whether I want it to or not. With the sky darkening, I can already feel it in my heart. The veil is thin, and if Dad wants to visit, I better make him welcome.
