Home again home again, jiggity jig
Jul. 24th, 2003 02:52 pmWell, we pushed on last night, and instead of stopping at Boomtown outside of Reno, drove the last few hours to make it home.
keltgrrl was most displeased at the state of our home when we arrived.
My sister and nephew stayed at our home while we were gone. She has no place of her own, and has been staying with my grandparents (and wearing thin her welcome) for several months. To give my grandparents a break, I reluctantly allowed her to stay at my place while we were gone. My wife didn't want that, my dad didn't want that, and the housemates did not want that. But I was under pressure from my Mom and Grandparents and Sister to let her stay. I convinced my wife and dad, and we let her stay here under several conditions. The short list is that my (sick) dad would be taken care of, and the house would look the same when we got home as it did when we left.
Well we come home, with her shit all over the house. She was expecting us this morning, so when we showed up last night, her plans to clean last-minute were foiled. The carpets were filthy, we now have to spend time right away to clean them. But to clean them, they need to be vacuumed, and wouldn't you know it, our (6 month old) vacuum is worn out. Not that she used it, it was worn out by the housemates who have a talent for wearing out vacuums) so we had to buy a new one today. This time we bought a 180 buck fantom. This one better last. The housemates have to get their own damn vacuum.
One of the housemates agreed to weed the front garden in our absence. We come home to find weeds (over) grown up to the height of our armpits. Arrgh.
So, instead of being able to relax after driving 1455.7 miles, I have several days of cleaning ahead of me. Not to mention getting back to my teaching job. Joy, oh joy.
Even so, its good to be home.
